Math & Science Quiz

Play this free math and science quiz: choose Easy, Medium, Hard, Expert or Mixed, pick 5, 10, 15 or 20 questions, and get instant explanations and a score at the end.

Choose your level

Pick a difficulty, then choose 5, 10, 15 or 20 questions. Every quiz is half maths and half science, shown one at a time. Maths numbers change every round, and science questions don’t repeat until you’ve seen them all.

Formula & worked example

Formula: Score = number of correct answers. Percentage = correct ÷ total questions × 100. A quiz has 5, 10, 15 or 20 questions, split as evenly as possible between math and science.

Example: 17 correct out of 20 = 85%. 8 of 10, 12 of 15 and 4 of 5 are each 80%. Playing again gives new questions.

Method & source: Math questions are generated with random numbers and checked by tests; science questions are drawn from a fixed, reviewed bank. See how we test our calculators.

Next step: try percentage change or weighted grades.

What Is the Math and Science Quiz?

The Math and Science Quiz is a free, self-paced quiz that mixes arithmetic and algebra with general science. You answer one multiple-choice question at a time, see straight away whether you were right, read a short explanation and move on. At the end you get a score, a percentage, a breakdown by subject and a review of every question.

This maths and science quiz has four difficulty levels – Easy, Medium, Hard and Expert – plus a Mixed challenge that blends all four. You also choose the length: 5, 10, 15 or 20 questions, always split as evenly as possible between maths and science, so you practise both without needing two separate tools.

Starting a round

Choose a level, then choose how many questions you want and press Start Quiz. There is no timer and no sign-up.

  • Your choice of length: 5, 10, 15 or 20 questions, shown one at a time in a random order with a progress bar.
  • Half maths, half science: even lengths split exactly in half, and with 5 or 15 questions one subject gets the extra question.
  • Fresh maths every time: the numbers are generated for each round, so replaying never gives the same sums.
  • Science that does not repeat: questions come from a bank at each level and are not repeated until you have seen them all.
  • Instant feedback: the right answer is highlighted with a short explanation after every question.
  • Retry and level up: play again with new questions, change the difficulty or try the next level up.

Your best result for each level is remembered in your own browser only, as a percentage so quizzes of different lengths can be compared. Nothing you answer is sent to a server.

What this quiz format is good for

Testing yourself is one of the most effective ways to remember what you know and to find what you do not.

  • Retrieval practice: answering questions strengthens memory more than re-reading notes.
  • Immediate explanations turn a wrong answer into a learning moment.
  • Short rounds fit into a break, a commute or a study session.
  • Levels let beginners build confidence and stronger learners stay challenged.
  • Mixing maths and science keeps every round varied and interesting.

Use the quiz as a warm-up, a friendly challenge with family or friends, or a quick check of what you remember from school.

Worked walkthrough: a 15-question medium quiz

You choose Medium and then 15 questions. The quiz builds 15 questions, either 7 math and 8 science or 8 math and 7 science because one subject gets the extra question. Math questions might be “Solve for x: 4x + 7 = 39” (answer 8) or “What is 35% of 240?” (answer 84), and a science question might be “Which part of the cell is called its powerhouse?” (mitochondria). You answer each one, watch the progress bar fill, see whether you were right and read the explanation. Suppose you finish with 12 correct: the result screen shows 12 / 15, which is 80%, a breakdown such as 6 of 7 math and 6 of 8 science, and your best Medium result as 80% (12/15). Choosing Play Again gives new numbers and science questions you have not seen yet.

Getting more out of each round

  • Start on Easy to warm up, then move to Medium and Hard once you regularly score around 80%, and try Expert when Hard feels comfortable.
  • For percentage questions, break the number down: 10% is one tenth, so 35% is 10% × 3 plus 5%.
  • In algebra questions, do the same thing to both sides of the equation – subtract first, then divide.
  • For science questions, eliminate options you know are wrong before choosing between the last two.
  • Read the explanation even when you are right – it often includes a fact or shortcut that helps with the next round.

How a round is built

Each quiz has the number of questions you choose, 5, 10, 15 or 20, split as evenly as possible between math and science and shown one at a time in a random order. Even lengths are exactly half and half (10 is 5 and 5, 20 is 10 and 10); with 5 or 15 questions one subject, picked at random, gets the extra question. Math questions are generated with fresh numbers every round, so the sum 35% of 240 today may be 45% of 180 next time. Science questions come from a bank and are not repeated until you have seen them all at that level.

What each level covers

Difficulty levels
LevelMath and science topics
EasyTimes tables, basic arithmetic, simple percentages and everyday science
MediumFractions, equations, geometry and core science facts
HardAlgebra, probability, compound interest and tougher science
ExpertMulti-step math, ratios and probability, and advanced physics, chemistry, biology and earth science
MixedA random blend of Easy, Medium, Hard and Expert questions

A good route is to start on Easy to warm up and move up once you are regularly scoring around 80%. The result screen offers the next level up after Easy, Medium and Hard.

Why short practice rounds work

Trying to recall an answer strengthens memory more than rereading the same material, an effect researchers call retrieval practice. Getting feedback straight away helps too: the correct answer is highlighted with a short explanation after every question, so a wrong guess becomes a small lesson rather than a lost point. A 5-question quiz suits a short break or a commute, and a 15 or 20-question quiz works as a proper revision session.

Turning wrong answers into progress

When a question catches you out, work the same idea through slowly with a tool. Percentage questions can be checked with the percentage change calculator and its step-by-step working. The Hard level includes compound interest questions, and the compound interest calculator pairs well with them because you can watch a balance grow year by year.

Reading your score

Your score is the number of correct answers out of the quiz length, shown with a percentage so different lengths compare fairly: 4 of 5, 8 of 10, 12 of 15 and 16 of 20 are all 80%. The result screen also splits the score into math and science so you can see which side needs attention. Your best result for each level is remembered in your own browser as a percentage with the score, for example 90% (18/20), so clearing browser data removes it and nothing you answer is sent to a server.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

You choose: 5, 10, 15 or 20. Each quiz is split as evenly as possible between maths and science – 10 questions is 5 and 5, 20 is 10 and 10, and with 5 or 15 questions one subject gets the extra question. When you finish you can play again with new questions.

Easy covers times tables, basic arithmetic, simple percentages and everyday science. Medium adds fractions, equations, geometry and core science facts. Hard includes algebra, probability, compound interest and tougher science. Expert has multi-step maths and more advanced physics, chemistry, biology and earth science. Mixed challenge blends Easy, Medium, Hard and Expert questions.

Yes. The numbers in maths questions are generated fresh every round, and science questions are drawn from a bank without repeating until you have seen them all at that level.

Your best result for each level is saved in your own browser as a percentage with the score, for example 90% (18/20), so quizzes of different lengths can be compared fairly. It is not sent anywhere, and clearing your browser data removes it.

It is completely free and needs no account or sign-up. Just pick a level and a quiz length, then start.

Maths ranges from times tables and fractions to algebra and compound interest depending on the level, and science spans physics, chemistry, biology and earth science questions at each level.

Yes. After each question you see whether you were right and a short explanation, and you get a score at the end.

Expert and Hard are the most demanding levels, and Easy is a gentler start for children and beginners. Pick the level that fits you.

Yes. The quiz is designed for phones with large buttons and works in any modern browser.
